Catherine Fenwick did nothing wrong outside of being a Muggleborn. She didn't speak out, she didn't mouth off to anyone, she was just a good person that happened to be put into a bad situation.
You have done nothing wrong outside of being my son. None of us might be Muggleborn, but Merlin only knows that I have pissed off enough people while I was at the DMLE.
Either you let me look at your wards or I am going to just do it. I am asking you permission in an effort to respect your privacy, but I'm your mother and am willing to forgo that if it means that I feel that you are at least a bit more safe than you otherwise might have been. I have already lost one person to those piece of shite people and I sure as hell am not going to lose another one.

We're going to have a slight change in security at the McKinnon cottage. Given everything that has been going on in the past while -- years, really -- it's left me more worried than usual. Since you're the ones that are here most often (or live here), you're being told upfront.
I've adjusted the wards so no one can apparate directly into the house, except for into the foyer. The only ones that can even do that are those included here, so Ashley, Mia, Kirk, Maggie, Catie, and myself. No one else. I wouldn't recommend trying to adjust the wards as I made fairly difficult, so don't even try. (This wasn't out of lack of trust for any of you, but instead for anyone outside of this group.)
The only fireplace that is now open to the floo network is the fireplace in the sitting room on the first floor. The one in my bedroom is now just a nice way to keep warm during the winter. However, like with apparating, the only people who can actually floo in are those that can see this.
Maggie and Catie, as you two live here and are most likely to have company outside of family, I expect you to pass this onto them and be discreet. If you have someone over, I expect them to apparate outside and knock. Please set up passwords or questions and use them before letting them in. Something specific, not "what is your favorite color" or anything vague. It's old fashioned, but it's better than nothing. If you do have someone over, I'd like to be told ahead of time, even if I'm at the school.
Ashley, Mia, and Kirk, please expect me to stop by at your homes in the near future to strengthen your own wards.
I know that this sounds paranoid and I know that it's inconvenient, but this war has to end eventually and I fully expect the lot of us to be there on the other side. If this is what it takes to guarantee it, so be it.

In light of everything that has transpired via the journals and wireless over the past handful of days, I feel a bit out of place bringing this up at all. However, I've never been very good at abiding by social norms. It's a weakness. So I wanted to thank my friends and family for giving me an absolutely wonderful birthday. I have many, many blessings in my life and many of them are people.
Also, my boyfriend and children are taking me on a beach-filled holiday. (That was my attempt at bragging. I would apologize if I was a better person.) I think this means I need to start running again, if I'm ever going to walk around in a bathing suit.
